Custom Orthotics
The foot and ankle specialists at Orthopaedic Associates of Central Maryland (OACM) often prescribe custom-fit orthotics for a variety of common foot ailments such as foot, ankle, and heel pain; plantar fasciitis; bursitis; and tendonitis.
Custom Orthotics in Central Maryland
Orthotics at The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics
The orthotics we recommend are customized, premium shoe inserts available only by prescription. They are made from a soft yet sturdy flexible material by a leading orthotics manufacturer.
Orthotics can balance many foot deformities and correct biomechanical misalignments to improve foot function and mobility. Molded to the unique shape of your foot, custom orthotics can reduce foot pain and make walking more comfortable. In many cases, they can help you avoid surgery. Custom orthotics also help alleviate debilitating foot pain caused by diabetes and other common foot conditions including plantar fasciitis.
The shoe inserts you can find in pharmacies and stores may offer cushioning for your feet, but they typically don’t provide relief for foot pain and are not made to correct biomechanical foot and ankle problems.
Customizing Your Orthotics with SmartCast® Technology
At OACM, your orthotics will be tailor-made for your foot problem and medical condition with premium custom orthotics from Northwest Podiatric Laboratory. After a comprehensive evaluation by one of our podiatrists, you will be fitted for your orthotics using the SmartCast® system:
- First, your foot will be placed in the SmartCast Foot Positioning System®.
- Next, the system captures photos and 3D scans of your feet, imaging the sides as well as the heels of each foot for the most accurate measurements.
- The 3D scans, photos, and measurements are then digitally sent to the skilled technicians at Northwest Podiatric Laboratory.
- The custom-made orthotics will then be sent back to OACM in approximately two weeks where the doctor will ensure they are a perfect fit.
Forget messy traditional plaster foot casts or foam impressions. SmartCast is quicker, more comfortable, and able to map your entire foot to ensure the most comfortable fit and optimal effectiveness.
